Abandonment
2
TheCassandraComplex
Not abandonment but neglect is a major part of one of main character’s backstory. This is shown in flashback sequences.

Another adult character has trauma about his childhood and being sent away from Korea to America and apparently fending for himself in K-Town? This character occasionally starts ranting about his childhood and it’s not 100% clear what happened exactly.

Kinda? There is a focus on how a main character’s emotional neglect as a child led to their destructive actions in the present.

S1
In S1E4, there’s a scene where a little girl (maybe 5ish?) is dropped by her mom. You hear a pretty heavy thud from the fall. I’m mentioning it because it’s somewhat unclear if the drop was accidental… Her mom struggles with impulse control —especially when it comes to anger responses— and the child was “acting out.” The child is otherwise loved and well cared-for (other than her parents frequently bribing her with candy against her doctor’s recommendation).

Also in episode 4, a character makes a joke about calling child protective services for “hitting a child.” This is a dig at his little brother (who I’m pretty sure is 20-something?) to imply that he’s immature.

In S1E9, a little girl ends up being a hostage to a group of hapless criminals. She witnesses some violence but is not mistreated. Although she is in a pretty scary/dangerous situation, she doesn’t seem to realize it and has a great time.

There is a scene where the characters think they are going to eat magic mushrooms (they are just regular mushrooms). Two characters get high on cannabis in a hotel room, there is a scene with hallucinations caused by poisoning.

A character who is often infantilized thorough the show (but is an adult) gets in a sexual relationship with a main character who's been catfishing him and lied about a 10 year age gap (approx)

She sends him a flirty picture (butt pic/non graphic) while he's still unaware and their relationship is considered romantic from his pov. They only start having sex after he knows her true identity.

___

At some point another character almost masturbates to the flirty picture not knowing it's a catfish but gets interrupted.

Yes. Although no mental illness is ever named, a main character is shown to have suicidal tendencies, disordered eating, and is described as "sad" by those close to him. This character engages in self-destructive behavior and behavior that emotionally harms those around them until it starts escalating to physically violent actions.

At one point, the young man’s older brother tells her she’s sick for having sex with a “child” … I’m reasonably sure the young man is not actually a minor but his age is never explicitly stated in the series.
